A: the The word the is pronounced as thee when it comes before a vowel.       

Example: the (thee) ant, the (thee) ice cream or the (thee) earth.

I.  Match the words pronounced as ‘thee’ to its picture.

 

II. Read the script, underline the words with the ‘thee’ sound.

Jane:  Look at the elephant!  It’s bathing in the water.
Peter:  Wow!  The other animals are waiting on the riverbank.
Jane:  The earth is truly a beautiful place.
Peter:  Do you want the binoculars to get a closer look?
Jane:  Yes, please.  The open landscape is wonderful!

 

B: The soft ‘g’ sound. The letter ‘g’ can sometimes be pronounced as ‘j’ as in jam. 
Example: gym, giraffe or message
