英文科課程特色

Our school-based English curriculum helps improve students' essential English competency by learning phonics, sight words and reading high-quality reading materials. Through reading the high-quality readers, students are exposed to authentic English and this cultivates students' sense of language and mastery of phonics skills.
Reading across the curriculum is also promoted in our classrooms to broaden students’ horizons, which helps them connect their learning experiences and provides opportunities for integrating and applying knowledge and skills developed in different subjects. It also provides opportunities for students to develop a wide range of reading skills, extend learning of the content and connect their learning experiences across Key Learning Areas.

Furthermore, our English curriculum also focuses on the development of students' speaking skills and the ability to respond to questions with elaboration. Effective student interactive learning activities, such as pair-work, show and tell, presentation, and group work are designed for students to have more opportunities to speak as to increase students’ confidence in speaking English and enhance their communication skills.

With the implementation of e-learning, our English teachers use multimedia (such as songs, online videos, etc.) in the classroom. The use of electronic whiteboards and iPads also serve to enhance the effectiveness of learning and teaching.

In promoting students' interest in learning English, we provide students with a variety of English activities to improve their English proficiency, such as our annual Spelling Bee and monthly English Days to promote students' interest in learning English. Students are encouraged to participate in different types of competitions, such as Speech Festival, Puppetry Competition, etc. to broaden their horizons with higher English proficiency in order to fully develop their potential.
